A government survey shows for the first time that one in 8 people in Japan is 75 or older.

The internal affairs ministry released a demographic estimate ahead of Respect for the Aged Day, which falls on Monday this year.
今年在週一來臨的敬老日前夕內政部發佈了一份人口統計估算

The ministry says roughly 33 million people are aged 65 or older, up 1.1 million from a year ago. They now make up 26 percent of the population. Both figures are record highs.

14.2 million of them are men and 18.8 million are women.
